Substation: From engineering to operation
Frequently asked questions about our services
To begin our work, we need to understand the full context of the project and the scope the client wants to delegate. We start with an initial conversation where you tell us:
- what the objective of the project is: new substation, expansion, repowering, regulatory compliance, or integration into an existing system;
- which part of the work you want us to carry out: electromechanical engineering, communications, calculation verification, construction, installation, testing, or commissioning;
- available documentation: previous studies, existing drawings, technical specifications, system operator requirements, calculation reports, or 2D/3D models if available;
- site conditions: electrical, geotechnical, and climatic data, construction constraints, access routes, and any operational limitations;
- applicable norms and standards: IRAM, IEC, IEEE, or any others required by the client or the system operator;
- expectations regarding schedule, budget, and working modality: EPC, engineering + assistance, independent verification, etc.
With this information, we jointly define the most efficient scope and develop the optimal technical solution for the project.
We can take charge of all stages of a substation project or only the ones the client needs. Our work is modular and adapts to the scope of the project:
- Complete engineering: electrical, electromechanical, civil, communications, protection systems, SCADA, electrical, thermal, mechanical and dynamic calculations, finite element analysis, and regulatory verification.
- Civil and electromechanical works: foundations, structures, equipment installation, cable routing, ducting, and intermediate testing.
- Communications and SCADA: architecture, integration, RTU, fiber, protocols, cybersecurity, and commissioning.
- Protection systems: studies, coordination, parameter settings, secondary and primary testing.
- Commissioning: testing, switching operations, energization, and support before the system operator.
- Final documentation: protocols, reports, calculation notes, as built drawings, and all documents required for approval.
The client may choose one stage, several, or the entire project, and we adjust the team and planning to deliver the most efficient solution
We organize the construction work through an integrated planning approach that combines our experience in substations with advanced digital tools. We use proprietary software supported by artificial intelligence to optimize schedules, installation sequences, material usage, and resource allocation. This allows us to anticipate interferences and reduce downtime.
Coordination with other contractors is managed through a shared cloud workspace, where everyone can access drawings, models, schedules, and site notifications in real time. This prevents duplication, rework, and misunderstandings. Daily communication is essential: we coordinate short progress meetings and assign clear responsibilities for each work front.
The logistics depend on the scheme agreed with the client, but in most cases More Energy coordinates with the different suppliers to ensure the best possible management. This includes specialized transportation, lifting operations, access planning, permits, and on-site supervision. Our goal is to ensure that each piece of equipment arrives on time, in the right condition, and ready for installation.
Yes. We can join the project at any stage, whether it is calculation verification, review of existing engineering, site supervision, installation, communications, protection systems, or commissioning. We adapt our work to the current status of the project and coordinate with the teams already involved to ensure an orderly and efficient integration
Yes. We design and build MSCDN systems (Mechanically Switched Capacitor with Damping Network), according to the client’s needs and the requirements of the system operator. We perform the electrical, thermal, mechanical, and dynamic calculations for each component, define the protection and communication architecture, and develop the complete engineering package for integration into the substation.
We also manage manufacturing, installation, testing, and commissioning, ensuring that the system complies with Argentine standards and responds correctly to load variations, grid events, and service quality requirements.
